Jugtown (Vernon Owens era) decorated chamberstick. Circular Jugtown stamp. Flared candle cup; thumb-grooved handle. Orange lead glaze with 3/8”-wide dark brown ring of slip approximately 1/2” in from edge. Size: 2 1/8” h.; 6 3/4” dia. Condition: Excellent. $20 - $30

Virginia Shelton (J. B. Cole) lidded teapot. Incised “V.S.” and either “84” or “89.”  D-shaped handles; nicely thrown with thin potting; lid has button finial. Glossy light blue, violet, and grays dripping down over medium brown. Size: 6 1/2” h. Condition: Excellent. $40 - $75

J. B. Cole neck vase. Unmarked. Tall slightly flared vertical neck applied on top of a vase form. Outstanding example of superior potting skills. Frogskin glaze with greens over browns. Size: 9 3/8” h.; 6” dia. Condition: Excellent. $30 - $50

Jugtown pie plate. Circular Jugtown stamp. Flared walls with thumb indentations. Medium orange tobacco spit glaze. Very nice glaze effect. Size: 1 7/8” h.; 9 1/2” dia. Condition: Tiniest bit of glaze abrasion on rim. $35 - $55

Lot 10

Smithfield (attributed) ruffled-rim handled basket. Unmarked. Grooved arched handle with smoothed ends; 3 well-formed ruffles at each end; shallow footed form. Chrome red glaze; dramatic effects from the red dripping down over a dark brown/black glaze underneath; almost evenly spaced drips! A very fine example of this form and glaze. Size: 10 1/4” l.; 10 1/2” h. Condition: Glaze pooling under base; two 1/2” glazed-over drying lines down from rim on the outside; but basically excellent. $150 - $250

A. R. Cole 3-handle jardinière. Unmarked. Three doubled-up rope handles with well-formed pinching toward their bottoms – superb example of potting expertise and not often seen in this size. A. R. Cole punch bowl and ladle. Circular A. R. Cole stamp. Steeply curved walls; ladle with pouring spout and a long thumb-grooved handle. Rutile-type glaze with dark browns dripping over lighter browns. Outstanding glaze effect on bowl! Size: Bowl: 8” h.; 13 1/2” dia. Ladle: 12” l. Condition: Ladle has scattered rim chips and roughness along handle. Bowl: 4-5 scattered glaze flakes on rim. $100 - $175

Billy Ray Hussey large two-handle vase. Incised “BH” and “1994.” Small footed form; flared neck; broad strap handles with thumb-press ends. Very striking glaze pattern with large wide drips of creams, medium greens, and dark cobalt blues over clear orange-brown color. Seven evenly spaced dark cobalt drips inside neck. Size: 13 1/4” h.; 9” dia. Condition: Drying lines in base; glazed-over drying line under one handle attachment; otherwise excellent. $100 - $200

Paper label on base says “Cole 83.” Frog sitting on haunches; semi-bulging eyes; perhaps sitting on lily pad; stilt marks on base; frog is quite realistic in appearance. Billy Ray Hussey flattened/squatty devil face jug. Incised “BH” and “12” in circle (for 12th kiln opening). Two raised horns; incised lines for eyebrows; flaring nostrils; scary mouth with jagged teeth; fully formed pierced ears on each side; rounded loop handle at back. Dark brown with green drips down from handle and front of face. Size: 4 1/2” h. to top of handle; 8 1/8” diameter from front to back. Condition: Large open drying crack from base to spout on right side; drying crack also runs halfway around base--does not detract from impact of piece. $100 - $200

Oakland Pottery face jug. Partial circular Oakland Pottery stamp, and stamped “R. Armfield.” Very well-potted piece. Vertically incised lines for eyebrows and eyelashes; eight porcelain-like teeth set in an open round mouth; slightly indented cheeks; slightly protruding chin area; deep-set eyes with formed pupils; flat strap handle. Alkaline glaze appearance with greens and browns and nice glossy glaze runs, especially on one side of face. Size: 7 3/4” h. Condition: Excellent. $70 - $135

Mark Hewitt large cruet with cork stopper. Linear “WMH” mark and “25” stamp (for 25th kiln firing, December 1991). Five broad incised rings around upper spout; rounded handle with thumb press end; round tapered side-spout that tapers down to a tiny 1/8” opening.
